WR Community Energy Recognized for Clean Economy Map Partnership

Sustainable Waterloo Region recognized the Clean Economy Cluster Map as the Best Partnership for 2021 at it’s recent Annual Evening of Recognition. WR Community Energy was honoured to receive this award alongside partners Sustainable Waterloo Region, the Region of Waterloo and WaterlooEDC.

We're spending a lot on energy...

We spent 2.1 billion dollars on energy in 2014. 1.8 billion dollars of that left our community buying 99.9% of the energy we use. This is a big hole in our local economic bucket.

AND WE'RE WASTING 45% OF IT

This graph may take a minute to get used to but it’s revealing. It tracks our energy as it gets used…and wasted. 45% of our energy turns into pollution in the form things like of greenhouse gas emissions, smog, and excess radiant heat. In short, we spend nearly a billion dollars a year importing environmental waste.

OUR GOALS, OUR PURPOSE

To improve and sustain Waterloo Region’s economic competitiveness and quality of life through the coordination of targeted energy investments.
